COOKWITHJAMMY/TOMATO RICE RECIPE

Tomato rice is usually made by South indians, nowadays it is prepared in many parts of the country. In tamil we call it as thakkali sadam. Whenever we need a different taste, we can try this recipe. It is mix of tomato,onion and spices, we can use tomato puree or chopped tomatoes. It can be prepared by using any kind of rice like sona masoori, basmati rice.Here I had used sona masoori rice. It goes very well with any kind of pickle, papads. It is a simple, tasty and time saving dish. 
Tomato rice/Thakkali sadam

INGREDIENTS
WHOLE SPICES
  1. Bay leaf-1
  2. Cinnamon stick-1
  3. Elachi-2
  4. Cloves-2
  5. Fennel seeds-1 tsp
OTHER INGREDIENTS
  1. Chilly powder-1 tbsp
  2. Coriander powder-1/2 tbsp
  3. Garam masala powder-1tsp
  4. Turmeric powder-1tsp
  5. Cumin seeds -1tsp
  6. Rice-1 cup
  7. Tomato-2 medium size
  8. Onion-1 medium size
  9. Coriander leaves
  10. Salt as required
  11. Ghee-1 tbsp

INSTRUCTIONS
  • Add 1 tbsp oil and a tbsp ghee in a pan. When oil becomes heat add the whole spices and cumin seeds. Let it splutter. If u don't have whole spices, just skip this step and  add 1 tsp garam masala powder along with other spices.                                                                      whole spices
  •  Add onion and saute until onion becomes light brown in colour.                                      Sorting onion
  • Add ginger garlic paste to onion and saute until raw smell goes.                                                                    Ginger garlic paste
  • Add all other spices and mix them for a minute.                                              Spices
  • To this add tomato puree and cook them for a minute.                                           Tomato puree
  • Now transfer this tomato mix and rice which is already cleaned, to a cooker. U can directly make masala in cooker and add rice.                                             Sona masoori rice
  • Add required amount of water and salt. Rice to water ratio is 1:2. Added some chopped coriander(optional).                                         Cooking rice
  •  After pressure comes, cook them in low flame for about 1 whistle.Tasty tomato rice is ready to serve.                                          
TIPS        
        Use ripe tomatoes for best result.
